Procrastination, and How It Can Be Your No. 1 Life Changing Skill

Welcome, welcome, dear human, on this beautiful new day. We are so happy to speak with you again, and we’d like to talk about procrastination, and how this can be a life changing skill.

Humans are always busy doing thingsBusy, busy, busy

We see most of you, if not all of you, being busy all the time. Humans always have so much to do.

You are usually in your head, thinking about the long list of tasks, things you want to have finished before a certain time.

Or you have things you want to achieve, goals, projects you are working on, there are so many things in your human life that you feel have to be done.

Always in ‘doing’ mode

And no matter how much you do, there is always more to be done! So you constantly remind yourself of those things, to make sure you don’t forget what you have to do.

You even came up with a word for it: a to-do list.

We think that is really funny in a way, because you have totally forgotten what it is to just be. To be means to just breathe and do nothing.

But doing nothing to you feels like you’re futile, you don’t achieve anything by just being. You think of being as ‘not doing’ and the doing is where you get your value, your self-worth from, right?

Being busy opposed to procrastination

slothAnd when you’re not doing but being, you feel as if you’re procrastinating. You feel that you are being unproductive… well, maybe you even use the word lazy.

Procrastination is often being seen as laziness, as a not all too good characteristic of a person.

When people procrastinate, you feel as if they are holding back, they are not giving their all, they are copping out, not being responsible…

But you have to understand that procrastination, or what you perceive as procrastination, is sometimes the best option to let the Universe handle things.

You don’t always have to be in control, you can leave more things to the Universe than you usually are willing to.

Time for a time-out

So, why not procrastinate a bit today? Just drop the things you’re doing, stop working all the way through those lists in your mind, or even on paper or in your phone, your computer, your agenda, wherever you keep your ‘to-do’ lists.

Make a just-be list, a beautifully blank do-nothing list, and allow yourself more time on a regular basis, by which we mean several times a day, to just be and do nothing.

It’s not lazy, it’s not bad, it does not devalue you. It gives you time to think about nice things, it gives you peace of mind, it gives you time to maybe meditate, or visualize your dreams coming true.

What will you put on your just-be list, your do-nothing list?

Get off-screen

screensMany of you are watching screens all day long. Be it your computer monitor, your mobile phone, tablet or laptop, and even your TV screen.

When you take your just-be time, make sure you’re not watching screens, filling your mind with ideas and images from other people.

Just-being means to literally just be, breathe, stop your busy mind, sit back and relax.

Or take a walk, go for a stroll on a beach, into a forest, or go anywhere to feel one with nature.

Train yourself in being

And if it makes you restless or feeling uncomfortable, hang in there, use that time to practice being. You could set a timer and start with just two minutes and then stretch that a little more each time.

Take time off, relax a bit more, breathe more consciously and feel how good a bit of procrastination can be for your body and your soul.

You’ll love it and you’ll start longing for your just-be breaks during the day, to rest, relax, and enjoy just being.

procrastination may even empty your to-do listAnd you know what? Many things on your to-do lists, will dissolve on their own, without you actively doing something!
